Hugo is a highly experienced counsellor and career coach with over 25 years of practice across diverse cultural contexts and client populations. He integrates trauma-informed counselling and Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work-informed approaches into his practice, offering compassionate, holistic support to individuals, couples, and young people.
Fluent in both Portuguese and English, and with a strong understanding of Spanish, Hugo has lived and worked in Portugal, Mozambique, Brazil, and Timor-Leste. His deep intercultural awareness informs his work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, allowing him to offer sensitive and inclusive support that respects clients lived experiences.
In his career coaching practice, Hugo supports high school students (Years 10–12), university students, and adults in navigating their personal and professional journeys. His work includes – career values exploration and goal setting, career transition support, interview preparation, résumé and cover letter development, personal branding and strategic job search planning.
Hugo collaborates closely with clients — and where relevant, their families — to foster clarity and confidence in decisions about post-school or post-university pathways, employment, and further study.
In his counselling practice, Hugo works with adolescents, adults, and couples to address personal and relationship challenges, emotional regulation and resilience, communication and connection, life transitions and decision-making and migration and inclusion in new countries.
Grounded in empathy, respect, and empowerment, Hugo’s integrative counselling style supports clients in accessing their inner resources and navigating life’s complexities with greater self-awareness and agency.
