Our Stress Management Workshop provides helpful techniques on how to deal with stress, and offers strategies on how to prevent stress & how to turn such into a positive tool.
What is stress? What does it mean when we are stressed out? Stress is your body’s response to a mental or emotional pressure. It is primarily a physical response.
Everyone, at some time is going to encounter some kind of a stressful situation in their lifetime. Fortunately, our body has a natural built-in stress response to threatening situations called the ‘fight or flight response’. When we are stressed, the body thinks it is under attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode. There are some personalities that will naturally stand up to a fight and at times will even encourage a fight in order to deter the “opponent”. Some personalities will run away and avoid conflict because they are afraid.
Stress can also be driven by factors that can be reactions from past experiences and unresolved issues. Just as fear can be debilitating if not looked at in a practical sense so can stress. For example: “What am I stressed about?” “Can I do anything about it?” If the answer is “yes”, then stop stressing and do something about it. If the answer is “no” then stop stressing about it and get on with the task at hand.
Is stress related to Anxiety? The answer is “Yes”. Anxiety can also be driven by Fear. We often judge ourselves and others based on what they do, but we need to look at ‘Why are they doing that?’
It has been proven that proper stress management is key: a little stress is a good thing, but too much can have devastating consequences for your health and relationships. Stress usually begins with a negative thought – “OMG, what if” followed by a feeling of fear, anger or any negative emotion. We then act out these thoughts and emotions. To further simplify it, if you think negative, you feel negative, and you will act negative.
As human nature would have it, we can be fearful of things that we do not understand. Once we recognise and understand our stress points we can deal with them rather than allowing them to debilitate us.

We now know that Stress can have positive and negative benefits. Stress is not dissimilar to fear.
In order to deal with stress, we need to understand it on both a negative and positive level.
“How can stress be positive that doesn’t make sense?” but it can. Understanding the positive and negative effects of stress can actually be one of the techniques and prerequisites of dealing with stress.

Lifeskills Stress Management workshop will discuss in an open forum some of the negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours that start the process of becoming stressful. As part of the Lifeskills Stress Management Workshop we will show you a short video that demonstrates what happens to the body when under stress, mentally, emotionally and physically. We will also show you some helpful techniques to deal with stress when you find yourself in a stressful situation and most importantly, we will give you techniques and strategies on how to prevent stress and turn it into a positive tool.
